A running list of mission statements, based on an analysis of what the church and the Elder Board actually says and does…
Mission Statement #17: Performing service of any kind within a church, whether it is cleaning toilets or teaching people, is more highly valued than performing the same service in another context. As a result of the value placed on church work, more people will be motivated to contribute time and energy.
Mission Statement #16: Since we cannot be assured that people will worship outside of church, we will endeavor to make the Sunday worship experience worthwhile (sufficient for a week.)
Mission Statement #15: Because lost people matter to God, they matter to us. This conviction will drive everything we do.
Mission Statement #14: People outside the church are not as important as people inside the church.
Mission Statement #13: Continued growth is preferred over reproduction.
Mission Statement #12: We expect that small groups, like the church, at large, will function principally to serve the needs of the members.
Mission Statement #11: We will teach our people how to truly love others, deeply, passionately, sacrificially, and patiently, knowing that Christ did not convince people of the Kingdom; he simply lived in it.
Mission Statement #10: We will give people the tools (arguments, answers to questions, philosophy, proof-texts) to convince the unsaved that we are right and they are wrong.
Mission Statement #9: Discipling will occur in the context of one-on-one or one-on-a-few relationships, where “relationship” and “commitment to transformation” are fundamental principles.
Mission statement #8: We will encourage the formation of small groups as a means of providing social connectedness for our congregants.
Mission Statement #7: In obedience to the directive that “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind,” our vision is to make disciples by offering quality educational experiences.
Mission Statement #6: In order to disciple people, we will encourage attendance at church and Sunday School.
Mission Statement #5: Gatherings of the church will focus on forms that enhance individual and corporate worship of God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
Mission Statement #4: The church will endeavor to make its activities as welcoming to strangers (non-Christians) as possible.
Mission Statement #3: The church will endeavor to keep its members satisfied with the Sunday service experience.
Mission Statement #2: Numerical growth will be assured by instituting, within the bounds of our doctrinal beliefs, whatever programs and strategies that attract people to Sunday morning services.
Mission Statement #1: Attendance at the Sunday morning service is an essential activity for Christians.
